There are a lot of children in Romania who don’t have access to books. Many of them don’t have bookcases at home and no library in their village. What’s worse, because of the lack of access to books, children from the Romanian countryside always fall behind their colleagues who come from wealthier families that read or are read to much more.
With the support of AZOMURES we arrive monthly, ever since 2015, in the villages where agriculture is perhaps the only chance children have for a brighter future. The local farmers understood the negatives side effects the lack of education can have in the community, and have decided to get involved in our project by supporting book donations and establishing book clubs with a regular activity.
The book donations take place as events in schools, where we meet with children, parents, teachers, local authorities and a public figure admired by the little ones.
“Up to this point, we’ve offered thousands of books to the children from the rural environment, and their reactions to every event organized in different villages gave us the motivation to go on even further. With every step we make in the development of this project we feel that we’ve given the kids one more chance. It’s very important for everyone to understand that they can take this chance and make the best of it only with the help of their teachers and their parents.”

“I never thought a famous person would come to our school, but ever since The Curtea Veche Association came together with Mr. Horia Brenciu, everything changed. The books we received are very beautiful and interesting. Now I like to read even more than before and I hope the lives of many pupils from this school will change, just like mine has.“
